Schools for patients living with breast cancer have begun to operate

The Ukrainian Oncology Portal and its partner All-Ukrainian NGO "Together About Cancer" decided to start such schools. They plan to gather two or three times a year women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and are undergoing treatment or have already done so and are living a normal life.

- Many people who write to us on Onkoportal are very confused. Even if they have completed treatment, they do not know what to do next. What to expect? What can and what should not? - says Onkoportal editor Lilia Kulikivska. - And we decided to give such women the opportunity to communicate with each other, share their experiences, consult with doctors. And it is very important that we do in partnership with a public organization that unites women who went through this diagnosis 10-15 years ago.

- Yes, it seems that we already have this in the past. But we understand those women who are just at the beginning of the journey, - continues the head of the NGO "Together Against Cancer", Larisa Lopata. - It turns out that we all know more about people who died of cancer, but little is known about those who live, work, enjoy life. And it is very important and useful to give women who have just started treatment the opportunity to communicate with those who have already undergone it a long time ago. It adds strength and faith.

Oncoportal had the opportunity to register for the patient school and participate in the discussion of its program. The women decided to invite Daria Vinnytska, a diagnostician from the Lysod clinic, and Natalya Rybak, a rehabilitation specialist, to the first school. By the way, Natalya not only talked about the prevention of lymphostasis, but even examined the women and prescribed individual exercises for each of them. And at the end, there was a master class by Dasha Malakhova. On the eve of Halloween, school members prepared pumpkin porridge - simple, tasty and useful.
