KYIV TV World Hospice and Palliative Care Day is held every October

The term "palliative care" means an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families who are faced with the problems of a terminal illness. The largest hospice in Ukraine has been operating in the tenth Kyiv hospital for more than ten years. Now he received the necessary equipment from a public organization.

- Until recently, the hospice building had a deplorable appearance. The city financed the repair of the facades and the complete replacement of the windows. Wards are gradually being renovated on two floors. Olena Petrivna has been living here for 10 days. The room is bright and cozy. Everything is convenient.

- I have a very serious, incurable disease, I was already left to die, but here I somehow came back to life. I feel bad - once - stabbed, once - consoled. The girls here, the staff are amazing. They go, help, do everything.

The Department of Health Protection and the "Ukrainian League for Promotion of Development of Palliative and Hospice Care" signed a cooperation agreement last year. The result is new functional beds, furniture, carts, medical equipment and a whole list of things that are absolutely necessary for such an institution. Vasyl Knyazevich hands over the documents to the chief doctor, in the nearest plans is the departure of a specialized team.

- In November, we want to launch a training center on the basis of the second hospital, where we will train specialists and volunteers who will help seriously ill patients. And there will be a visiting team. This is one of the three hospice departments operating in the capital. It is the largest and currently houses more than seventy seriously ill Kyiv residents.

Mykhailo Ryhan, director of the health care department:

- We will involve as many people and organizations as possible so that people in this hospice feel more comfortable - not as abandoned as we often see. As a rule, these are people who are not helped by anyone except the state and volunteers. You see that the work is not going as fast as we would like, I want to say that there is hope for the future.

Even in difficult times, Ukrainians have proven their willingness to help. For these people, moral support is worth no less.
