An Orthodox hospice and certified specialists in palliative care will appear in Odesa region

At the Holy Intercession Hermitage of the Holy Dormition Odesa Men's Monastery in the village of Marynovka, the construction of the Orthodox hospice "Pokrova" continues at a rapid pace. This was announced by the chairman of the board of the "Ukrainian League for the Development of Palliative and Hospice Care", Vasyl Knyazevich, who visited the construction site and talked with the monastery's superiors.

"For the Odesa region, where there is no hospice for palliative patients, this will be the first institution where residents from the surrounding villages and towns will be able to turn for help. Unfortunately, in Ukraine, hospice care remains at a very low level of financial and personnel support. And it is very important that the Church helps the state in this matter," said Vasyl Knyazevich.

According to the head of the Odesa regional organization "Ukrainian League for the Development of Palliative and Hospice Care" Igor Shpak, it is also planned to introduce a corresponding specialization in hospice care at the Odesa Medical University in the near future. During their studies, students will not only acquire theoretical knowledge of palliative and hospice care, but will also undergo practice in the new "Pokrov" hospice.
