Implementation of international treatment protocols is a complex and long-term process

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine does not approve already developed treatment and care protocols for terminally ill patients. Instead, the use of international protocols, which are recommended to be implemented in work, is complicated by the low level of foreign language proficiency of Ukrainian doctors. This was discussed during the meeting of the presidium of the board of the NGO "Ukrainian League for the Development of Palliative and Hospice Care".

In accordance with Law 6327 adopted by the Supreme Court, which kicks off the medical reform, the procedure for approving industry standards, including protocols, is adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers. However, no one knows what this order will be. Currently, doctors are working according to old guidelines and recommendations.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of doctors cannot apply foreign language protocols that have not been translated and legalized, therefore the first deputy head of the board of the "Ukrainian League for the Development of Palliative and Hospice Care" Raisa Moiseyenko suggested for the transition period to involve specialized associations that could provide recommendations Ukrainian doctors. After all, according to experts, even fluency in foreign languages is not a guarantee of instant implementation of international protocols in Ukraine.

As the adviser to the head of the board of "League" Vera Chaikovska explained, for example, during the adaptation of the Austrian hygiene recommendations for home care groups, both translators and doctors faced a number of problems. "Adaptation is extremely difficult, because there are different realities regarding drugs, solutions, and equipment. Some sections of the recommendations are unacceptable for Ukrainian realities," the specialist noted.

During the meeting, it was decided to hold separate consultations with specialist associations of doctors regarding the possibility of such a format for solving the problem of protocols and to send a letter to the leadership of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine with a request to pay special attention to the problem of the implementation of international protocols.
