Construction of the first palliative care center in the region has begun in Dnipro

Construction of the first palliative center for terminally ill patients in the region has begun on the basis of City Hospital No. 15 in Dnipro, which will begin its work in 2019. The institution will not only provide appropriate assistance, but will also become a methodological and educational center for specialists in the field of palliative and hospice care.

This was told by  the head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional organization "Ukrainian League for the Development of Palliative and Hospice Care" Yuriy Krynychnyi.

"There are only two palliative care centers in Ukraine - in Kharkiv and Ivano-Frankivsk. The third, but the best one, will be opened in Dnipro in 2019. It is being built according to all European standards," Yuriy Krynychnyi noted.

The center in Dnipro is designed for 20 single and 13 double rooms.

"It will be a modern building with high-quality repairs, each ward has its own shower, comfortable multifunctional beds, and special oxygen masks are nearby. Video surveillance will be installed in the institution, a chapel will be opened, two elevators will be installed, a modern cafeteria and an X-ray room will be equipped. There are also rooms for the temporary stay of relatives and volunteers. The psychotherapist's office, the Pain Correction Center will work," Yuriy Krynychnyi said.

A day hospital will also operate in the center. Here, patients will receive pain-relieving procedures, massage, and physical therapy.

Currently, 102 hospice beds operate in the region on the basis of various hospitals.
