In Zhytomyr, the examination of design and estimate documentation for a new hospice is being completed
At the end of October, the examination of the design and estimate documentation for the reconstruction of the hospice building in the city of Zhytomyr at 3, Energeticnyk Lane will be completed. Viktor Khomenko, a representative of the health care department of the Zhytomyr City Council, said this. "Last year, a decision was made to create a hospice in the city of Zhytomyr. 50,000 hryvnias were allocated from the city budget for the production of documentation in 2016, and 200,000 hryvnias in 2017," Khomenko informed, adding that the examination began on July 1 and will last until October 25 this year. The people of Zhytomyr are in great need of the construction of this institution, because about 2,000 residents of the region need palliative care.
As Taras Volkov, deputy chief physician of the Zhytomyr regional oncology dispensary, said, currently the only palliative care institution in the region is the "St. Elena" hospice in Korosten. However, it is more likely not a full-fledged hospice, but a charitable organization, because the institution does not even have a license to dispense specialized narcotic drugs. "In Zhytomyr, I believe, it is necessary to create a hospice with 20-30 beds, depending on the need. But hospice is not only inpatient care, because many people want to die at home, therefore, it is necessary to create mobile teams to provide this type of care," Volkov believes.
We will remind you that in Zhytomyr Oblast, as part of the celebration of the World Day of Hospice and Palliative Care, various events were held to draw attention to the topic of providing care to the terminally ill. In particular, there was an exhibition of creative works of children with cancer "I believe, I dream, I live!" and a photo exhibition "Improving the quality of life at the end stage of an incurable disease", volunteers made "good visits" to palliative patients, a scientific and practical conference was held , etc.
