The status of a palliative child in Ukraine must be determined by specialist pediatricians - an expert
According to V. Knyazevich, if there is professionalism and desire, six months will be enough for the issue of creating the Register of Palliative Children to be settled
KYIV. October 12. UNN. To determine the status of a palliative child in Ukraine, it is necessary to involve specialist pediatricians. Only after that it is possible to talk about creating a record of palliative patients under the age of 18. This opinion was expressed by the ex-Minister of Health of Ukraine, Vasyl Knyazevich, in the UNN commentary.
Currently, there are no registries of palliatively ill adults or palliatively ill children in Ukraine.
"Professionalism is needed to resolve this issue. We need to gather specialist pediatricians, people who have to say which children's diseases are related to palliative care. This is the most important thing. It is necessary to define this status professionally. It should not be done by politicians or public figures, namely professionally. This should be done by pediatricians who work with children. It is necessary to professionally define the concept of a palliative patient in pediatrics. After all, we really have an adult palliative patient and we have a child. Then it is necessary to conduct an inventory and that's it," he said.
According to V. Knyazevich, if there is professionalism and desire, six months will be enough for the issue of creating a proper record of palliative children to be settled. "It's literally six months, if we talk about the whole process. And this should be done by the state, because it should form policy. It is not the public movement, but the Ministry of Health, the government, that should have its say and vision.
Europe, for example, is very careful about palliative care for children: because there are questions about pediatrics, rehabilitation, not hospices, but respites... And everything must be taken into account. I believe that professionals should ultimately decide on these concepts (of a palliative child — ed.) and offer Ukraine the right approach," he emphasized.
We remind you that in Ukraine there are no children's forms of pain-relieving narcotic drugs that are prescribed for palliative children (syrups, plasters). Until now, the Ministry of Health has not determined the need for palliative children for such drugs, because they do not know the exact statistical data on the number of palliative patients in each of the regions of the country. Accordingly, the specialized department cannot study and form the need for children's opioids. At the same time, domestic Ukrainian drug manufacturers have the necessary capacities and capabilities to ensure the production of children's painkillers. For this, they only need an appropriate order from the Ministry of Health, which is not available .
At the same time, Acting Minister of Health U. Suprun previously promised that the Ministry of Health will purchase children's opioids abroad . And although more than three weeks have passed, no contracts for such a supply in Ukraine have yet been signed with anyone.
